Tongues " A Supernatural Language for Every Believer"

Living Supernaturally: Why God's Ways Are Higher Than Ours

There is a version of the Christian life that is safe, predictable, and entirely manageable by human reasoning. And then there is the life God actually calls us to — one that is wild, wonder-filled, and completely dependent on faith. The gap between those two lives is not a matter of personality or preference. It is a matter of surrender.

God made this plain in Isaiah when He declared that His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts. That is not a warning designed to frustrate us. It is an invitation. It is God saying, "There is a higher way of living available to you, if you are willing to trust Me enough to step into it."

The question is whether we are willing.

When the Carnal Mind Gets in the Way

Romans 8 draws a sharp line between two ways of living: being led by the Spirit and being governed by the carnal mind. The carnal mind is not necessarily evil in the dramatic sense. Most of the time, it simply insists on reason. It says, "If I cannot explain it, I will not do it. If it does not make sense, it must not be God."

But consider what that posture would have cost the disciples. When Jesus led a blind man outside of the city, knelt down in the dirt, and mixed mud from His own saliva to place on the man's eyes, there was nothing reasonable about it. By every human standard, it was strange. And yet it was exactly what the Father directed Him to do. Jesus lived a life of radical submission to the Holy Spirit, doing only what He saw the Father doing and saying only what He heard the Father saying. The result was a blind man who could see.

That is the pattern. Obedience to the Spirit, even when it defies our expectations, opens the door to outcomes only God can produce.

The Power of the Word and the Spirit Together

There is a tension that exists in many church environments. Some communities are rich in worship, spiritual gifts, and the moving of the Holy Spirit, but are not deeply rooted in Scripture. Others are grounded in solid biblical teaching but have effectively locked the Holy Spirit out of their services, afraid of what they cannot fully explain. Neither extreme reflects the fullness of what God intends.

When the Word and the Spirit come together, something extraordinary happens. That is where revival breaks out. That is where healing flows. That is where people encounter God in ways that change them permanently. The Word without the Spirit can become dry religion. The Spirit without the Word can become emotionalism without foundation. But when the two are united, you get the living, breathing power of God moving through ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things.

John 18 offers a striking picture of this power. When soldiers came to arrest Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane and He simply declared "I am He," they drew back and fell to the ground. No one pushed them. No one touched them. The power of God, released through spoken words, knocked trained soldiers off their feet. That same power is available to every believer who walks in the fullness of the Spirit.

Speaking in Tongues: A Supernatural Gift for Every Believer

One of the most misunderstood and sometimes dismissed gifts of the Holy Spirit is the gift of tongues. For many people, the first encounter with someone praying in tongues is disorienting. It does not sound like anything familiar, and what we do not understand, we are tempted to distrust or even reject.

But Scripture is clear. First Corinthians 14:2 describes the one who speaks in tongues as speaking directly to God, not to men. In the Spirit, that person speaks mysteries. It is a supernatural prayer language that bypasses the limitations of human understanding and taps directly into the perfect will of God. When you do not know how to pray for a situation, when you are too weary to find the words, when the need is greater than your vocabulary can contain, the Holy Spirit provides the utterance.

Acts 2:4 records the moment the early church was filled with the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost. Every single person in that room began to speak in tongues as the Spirit gave them the words. It was so loud and so powerful that people outside the building heard them. Those gathered in Jerusalem from nations across the known world heard these men glorifying God in their own native languages. The supernatural broke through every natural barrier.

The baptism in the Holy Spirit, as described in Acts 8, is distinct from salvation. The believers in Samaria had already received Jesus and been baptized in water. Yet the apostles in Jerusalem considered it so vital that they sent Peter and John specifically to pray for them to receive the Holy Spirit. When hands were laid on them and they received the Spirit, something visible and audible happened — so evident that a sorcerer named Simon was willing to offer money for that kind of power.

When the overflow of God's Spirit is genuinely present in a person's life, people notice. They want what you have. That hunger in others is not manufactured through programs or personality. It comes from being so filled with God that His presence spills out into every interaction, every conversation, every room you walk into.

Are You Thirsty?

The life God has called us to is not boring. It is not a life of going through religious motions and hoping for the best. It is a life of walking so closely with the Holy Spirit that you begin to see what He sees, hear what He says, and step out in faith to do what He directs — even when it looks unusual, even when it defies explanation.

We are living in significant days. The signs of the times are unmistakable. And in days like these, knowing how to hear God's voice and having the confidence to obey it is not optional. It is essential.

The invitation is open. Draw near. Get hungry. Get thirsty. Let the Word and the Spirit do what only they can do in your life.
